Camargue

'Ride the famous white horses in the glorious south of France’

The Camargue encompasses the huge territory of 300 sq. miles from the Rhone River to the Mediterranean Sea. The typical Camargue landscape is like a lost horizon - your glance reaches farther and farther without reaching a single obstacle in the flatlands except for hazy silhouettes of horses, cattle and sparse clumps of trees. If you love horses you will love the Camargue - everyone has horses here. The locals get married on horseback, go to church on horseback and the ‘guardians’ - the hardy French cowboys, still round up the black bulls and keep traditions alive.

The Parc Regional de Camargue is full of exciting flora and fauna and rich in wildlife. Flamingos, cattle egrets, storks, herons to name but a few of the birds that live in this watery haven. In spring, you will see Tamaris shimmering pick against the silvery waters of the lagoons, flamingos fly above your head as you splash through the waters of Lake Vaccares, canter on the beach, gaze at rice fields and wild herds of black bulls.

Pay a visit to Saintes-Maries-de-le-Mer with it’s lovely beaches, provincial shops and maze of cobbled streets, pavement cafes and bars. The famous church stands high against the Mediterranean sky, while Gypsy festivals add an air of excitement to this lovely small town.
